Stoke Newington destinations?

There's a pretty good chance that I'll be eating at Tava tomorrow or Sunday. Any other reccs for the area? Turkish dessert locations? Other places where I can eat pre-dinner or post-dinner snacks or grab lunch for tomorrow? Seeing as I'll probably have a stew at Tava; I would appreciate grilled meats or other specialties along those lines.

Yes, I can eat 2-3 meals back to back. Once again, cash willing.

Recc away please.

Happy Thanksgiving BTW.

  1. In the past, if someone was going to Stoke Newington, I would not have hesitated to recommend the 19 Nomura or the Mangal on Arcola St. But there has been a shake up in the last week or so which has left the Mangal floundering.

A large new Turkish restaurant out in the suburb of Buckhurst Hill, poached some of their most experienced grill-masters. I went there to check it out with my brother on Thursday and saw many familiar faces. The menu is essentially the same.

Whilst you are sampling the Tava, don't forget that there is an excellent off-off theatre in Arcola Street that has 'pay-what-you-can' on Tuesdays.

:) Its a theatre, not a cinema, you know, plays and stuff!

Do you have the name and/or address of the Turkish place in Buckhurst Hill? I'll be out there (for a walking challenge) in the next month or so and have been scrabbling around for places to check out while I'm in the area.

Thank you — but which street?

What sort of "shake up" do you refer to? I was there about a month ago, and still saw the familiar faces. This is a sad day! What other ocakbasi places in Dalston are considered on the same level of Mangal? I've only been to Mangal, but I understand there are a number of others with similar quality and potentially lower prices.

Mangal is amazing.... curious find out what happened.

Sorry to bring this up again, but has anyone been to Mangal recently? Has it really gone downhill? If so, what are some of the other ones around the neighborhood that are worth checking out? Is Hasan any good? (14 Stoke Newington Road)? Supposed to take a few friends up there; many of my friends live in Chelsea so it will be good to get them up to North London.
