Does anyone know a place where I can get French specialty foods in Metro Detroit? Specifically, I am looking for Provencal lavender honey, and I have struck out all over town. So far I've tried Whole Foods, Papa Joe's, Farm's Market in GP, to no avail. Thanks for any help!

  1. Zingerman's in AA has an excellent (although expensive, natch) lavender honey from France. If you search Zingerman's honey on Google, it'll come up at or near the top. That site says it specifically comes from Provence. They have several French varieties.

Good idea - Zingerman's. However, do be careful and call ahead to make sure they stock it. I've gone to the AA store expecting to find items listed on their website and was informed that they don't carry some of the items listed in their web site - for me it was bottarga - since the site caters to mail order clientele and is a separate (apparently distant?) business. And they didn't honor the sale price on items featured online that they also carried in the store. Just call ahead to make sure.

I just ate at Zingerman's tonight, and I looked on the shelf. It's there--labeled in French, "Miel de Lavande." Go nutz. MrFood could be right about store vs. Internet pricing, though.

Thanks for the tips. I had originally ordered through Amazon.com and they screwed up and sent me "Flower Syrup." The company, Gourmet Country, handled it well, and told me to keep the syrup and next-day-aired me the lavender honey which I got Monday. Thanks for looking on the shelf, Jim!

    2. These are not in Detroit but if you're desperate, try looking at ....

http://www.jodibeehoneyfarm.com/ (participated in a lavender festival in the summer, but lavender honey is not listed on this website)

        1. I've never been there, but what about Chez Pierre in the Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor?
