Aussie hangouts in NYC?

Heading to NYC this weekend with an Aussie mate. Would love to surprise him with a trip to someplace either owned by Aussies or Australian themed. Anyone know of a place?

ah... LOL about Outback... excellent suggestions - thanks! did you mean Bondi Road?? couldn't find a Bondi Beach in NYC

yeah... bondi road. staff is aussie and seems authentic enough in a kind of divey tourist place you'd find in sydney kind of way. still fun nonetheless.

8-mile creeek is more of the aussie hangout. that area -- nolita -- can be considered a 'very little melbourne' along with ruby's, public restaurant nearby serves high-end new zealand / aussie fusion. used to have kangaroo on the menu but don't see it now (though otherwise no obvious aussie theme or clientele).

    2. Tuck Shop - for Aussie meat pies.

The meat pies maybe Australian but you won't find many Australians hanging out.

      2. The folks that run Ruby's (which seems to be the most popular local australian spot in town) just opened Kingswood on w. 10th st in the west village. it's a bit more upscale, really nice room though not a particularly australian menu. but lots of australians hanging out there for sure...

But why take an australian to an australian place? if you went to australia would you want your pal to take you out for pizza and bagels?! ;)

Ruby's on Mulberry was definitely mediocre for food (the rag bol spaghetti in particular was worse than Chef Boyardee) but has a very cool atmosphere for a single room place.

          1. The Australian on 38th between 5th and 6th. I pass by it all the time but have never been there, so I don't know if Aussies actually hang out there.
