The "Continental" restaurant is, I think, an extinct species in NYC. The closest we currently come to it is Cafe Boulud, 4-star chef Daniel Boulud's second-tier restaurant. First-rate cuisine with 4 menus: "La Tradition" = French cuisine; "La Saison" = seasonal dishes; "Le Potager" = dedicated to vegetarian dishes; and "Le Voyage" = tastes from around the globe. Polished service and pleasing ambiance.
