I forget who it was but someone out there was raving about RR chicken at Ferry Plaza. After that and a rec from a friend who had it last time we lunched there, I tried it on Saturday.

It was wonderful. Meat was moist and the skin like the thinnest, richest potato chip. Mind you, I'm not saying it was as good as the chicken I had at Chez Panisse the day before. But, it was wonderful. I would rate it behind only CP and Il Pollaio. I haven't been to Zuni in a while. It was hella sick.

I had the quarter chicken combo lunch and then returned to buy a whole chicken. He was selling out shortly after 1. Also bought a lamb special from the last roast standing. As expected, it was a little done for my tastes, but very flavorful nonetheless. I heated it and the potatoes in a little chicken broth and it was damn good too. The lamb cries out for a little gravy.

Roli Roti chicken is yummy! I'm usually not a fan of rotisserie chicken but this changed my mind.

For folks in the Los Altos area, on Mondays from 2-7 PM, a Roli Roti truck is located at the deMartini Orchard produce stand on San Antonio Road. He occasionally runs late, but the chickens are just wonderful. I understand they're at the Los Altos Farmer's Market on Thursdays from 4-8 PM also...yum!

We had Roli Roti last Friday evening at the Sausalito Farmers’ Market. They had a Jazz concert nearby so it was very nice. We also picked up a chicken to cook on Sunday, from one of the farmers at the market. It was a French breed chicken that is new in this country. It was the best chicken we’ve ever made! They only process about 20 of these a week. Real small scale. They obviously do it for fun.

Had it cold last night for dinner and it was undistinguished. No better than any number of cold rotisseried chickens I've had. The meat seemed a bit dry and the skin had lost all its crispness. I much prefer the Pasta Shop's Thai chicken cold.

Has anyone had any luck heating up Roli Roti? My lamb special from them was really good heated up. Guess next time I will just eat a half chicken on the spot!

Is this the same one that goes to the Lake Merritt Farmer's markets (saturdays in oakland)? Because if it is, I've tried their chicken last summer and it was terribly overcooked, bland, etc...

They're at the College of San Mateo Farmers Market on Wednesdays - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Maybe I bought on an "off" day but I wasn't impressed - granted, it's hard to resist them - they look so gorgeous on the rotisserie and the fragrance is divine. I just didn't think they had that much flavor.

My experience at the Ferry Buillding was similar....dry (mealy) and stringy....I wonder if I ask for one "on the rare side" that would alleviate this problem....the potatoes were greasy and not at all crisp...is this how they're supposede to be?

I'm not a fan of the Roli Roti either. The chicken can sometimes be dry.

I find the grilled chicken at El Pollo Supremo or its San Mateo outpost more to my taste.
