$1 oyster question
i know there are several Boston (and vicinity) places that have oyster 'happy hours' and i've done the one at M&S but only when i was with people that didn't have oysters on the brain.
now, if i wanted to belly up to the bar at one of these places and say 'keep 'em coming until the happy hour's over' will they get pissy? i can probably put away several dozen.

Heh. That reminds me of when I played football, and went to all all you can eat pizza place after a two-a-day practice.
After putting away about $300 of pizza and sides, a manager came up to me and said I had to leave.
I said, "but I thought it was all you can eat."
He said, "Yeah. And that's all you can eat."

He's dead, so all rights to his material are now free and clear. And mine!

Last time I was at 28 Degrees before 7pm they were pretty forthcoming with the oysters. They even made an announcement at about 6:55 to remind people to put in their last oyster orders. Of course, their service has never been quick, so there's only so many you can get with the flagging-down-bartender delays.
Most restaurants around here should be able to get oysters wholesale for under $1 a piece. If you order a few drinks along with a mess o' oysters, they can still likely make a profit (a small one, but restaurants aren't high margin businesses).

Wow, 28 degrees has that deal? Interesting.
If anyone else has a list of $1 oyster deals please post! (Bonus points for a short statement on oyster quality)
Coincidently, today (day before thanksgiving) is pretty much the best day to hit-up happy hours :)

I should have mentioned the oysters 28 Degrees sells...
They get their oysters from a single source in Duxbury. Every time I've had them, they've been very good. Maybe not Wellfleet, but close.

28 Degrees is cool about it. A friend and I (she, a young, beautiful blonde, thin as a rail) and I were somehow able to pack away 5 or 6 dozen oysters (washed down with frozen Bellinis, of course) last summer.

5 or 6 dozen? Excellent! I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised!
I certainly won't complain about a $1 Duxbury, thanks for the tip Patio/Prav!

a very small profit if they are lucky. oysters that places like 28 degrees get are costing them around $0.80/ea for the island creeks and they have to pay for labor, rent, etc. its not really a money making thing just promotion.

Red Rock Bistro on Mondat nights have oysters at the bar all night for a buck. Last Monday they had seven varieties.
