Spending $100 a person for 40th birthday
I am turning 40 in March so my wife and I are going to NY to celebrate. We want to go crazy one night for dinner and eat at a $100 a person type tasting menu restaurant (without wine, tip or tax).
The places such as Daniel, Per Se, Le Bernardin are too much. We can go as high as about $105-$110ish but that's about it.
Any suggestions? We like Seafood, French, American, Italian...We were thinking Babbo, Telepan or Gramercy Tavern.
Any recent reviews on Telepan besides menupages? Food and service slipping with the whole tipping fiasco??
Thanks so much in advance....
We recently had dinner at Telepan for the first time. While I didn't feel the food was quite as rave-worthy as other Hounds seem to feel it is, it was, nonetheless, still very good. Service was first-rate, and the overall ambiance is extremely pleasing. I would certainly not have any problem going back. That said...
Fleur de Sel is one of our favorites. Chef/owner Cyril Renaud's contemporary French cuisine is seriously delicious, there's an excellent wine list, service is professional, and the small, cozy space has lovely decor. I highly recommend the 6-course tasting dinner. We have had quite a few of those dinners, all of them superb, and at $89, a definite steal!
Note: I would certainly recommend Eleven Madison Park. However, the 3 courses mentioned by Leah is the basic menu. There is also a 4-course menu for $102 The tasting menu is the Gourmand -- 11 courses + extras for $145.
