  1. It's apparently just closed for renos and will re-open as Saigon Sister again.

    1. I also heard this is only for renovations. But I noticed they have no signs on the window to indicate this: a grave mistake, in my opinion. How many people will assume they went under? How hard is it to print out a small sign and tape it to the door?

I am not too sure about them reopening.. I walked by in the middle of the day on a Tuesday and there was no activity at all... Plus that was one of the newest and modern spaces on the strip. Reakky does not need a "shutdown" for renovations.

That could be for a lot of reasons. Materials supply and labour availability don't always sync up.

I certainly hope they're doing a reno. Although I like the place I always hated the room. I only ever go when the patio's open. Save me from another Yabu Pushelberg resto.

It was "new and modern" for the first few years, but then it got really, really tatty. The thing about that super sleek look is that it needs to be kept ship-shape or it looks terrible. It doesn't wear gracefully like an old pub or a place with a more "homey" decor.

The last time I visited the food was still surprisingly excellent, but the decor and service were not. I noticed the staff had taken over a table by the door to use for themselves -- it was stacked with cutlery, napkins, menus, and other junk. It seemed like a weird disconnect because the place always looked like it was trying to be trendy but the service was very "Chinatown casual".

I do hope they re-open, but I won't be betting any money on it.

Hmm, I went recently before they closed, and the had a sign near the front entrance saying they were going to be closed for "renervations" (yes, that's what it said) and I think they listed dates, but I don't remember what they were.

          2. A brief update. Walked by there today and there are building permits on the door, issued on Dec. 27th. Lots of activity inside as well. Looks like they're on the path for a spring re-opening.

It appears to be renovation alley along that stretch of Yonge, as I noticed Spring Rolls is closed for all of January for a reno.

jamie...since you're 'in the know'....tell me what's happening at the SE corner of Yonge & Bloor....I know that a few of the places in Roy's Square closed due to the expected Condo that is going to be built...has anyone else around there closed? Harvey's? Meant to check it out before I left TO but didn't get around to it? What else is likely to close further south than the actual corner?

                1. re: pearlD

Pretty much everything in that "complex" has closed. Harvey's is gone, Sweet Factory, the opitcal place on the corner. On Yonge the currency exchange place, Popeye's and a few others are gone as well.

"Pretty much"? every single business in that whole block have either relocated or closed. Hmm that reminds me, should take a picture of it before it's all boarded up.

            2. Saigon Sister is now "Passion". The tables and chairs look the same, I saw people eating Viet/Thai kind of food, but I haven't been yet.
