Good butcher on the Eastside (Seattle)?

(long time lurker, first post)

I have diligently searched the PNW board (last 5 years) looking for a good butcher on the Eastside, and I found many suggestions for Renton, Columbia city, Pike Place market, etc. While any of those places make for a fun week-end drive, driving around is something I'm trying to avoid as much as possible, especially on workdays.

That leaves me with Whole Foods, PCC and Exotic Meats (for frozen meats out of the ordinary). But I'm trying to find a more local butcher I can "build a relationship with", so to speak :-)

Any suggestion on the Eastside (Bellevue/Redmond/Kirkland)?

  1. You could try Golden Steer. It's off Bel-Red road in the crossroads area.

    1. Exotic Meats closed quite awhile ago, though I think they still have mail order.

        So they have :-) they's re San Antonio, TX now, according to their website. I have been living in Boston for the last year, back to Seattle now and (re)discovering the neighborhood.

        I tried Golden Steer, and I'm pretty pleased so far. I only tried "safe" choices like steak and lamb, and both were excellent. The best sign yet, while shopping there, was the customer before me talking about how good the bones he bought were for his stock and demi-glace... my kind of guy :-). Thanks for the suggestion!

        Call before you go if you are looking for something exotic, otherwise I've had great steaks, pork chops and tenderloin, sausage, bacon, and jerky from there.

        1. I have two for you to check out: The Butcher Shop Cafe---yes, it's a butcher shop and cafe, on Juanita Drive across from Arrowhead Elementary School. And there are 4 different Bill the Butcher shops---one in Redmond and one in Woodinville. The other two shops are on the Seattle side.

          1. Don & Joe's Meats at Pike Place Market. Where else can you get good calf's liver, veal, bones for stock, etc.?

            Yes it's a schlep; just suck it up.
