Any recommendations for dinner in Hong Kong on New Year's Eve (31 Dec)? Preferably somewhere we can book in advance that isn't too exhorbitant (ie. under 100$ US/head) but will have a good atmosphere and great food?

We were there last year and would recommend Jimmy's kitchen in Kowloon. http://www.jimmys.com/ They do a quite reasonable (for NYE) set menu. There is a countdown on the street outside, so you get to see the local atmosphere also. Make sure to visit the Peak, the jade market, take the Star ferry, and above all just walk around.

      Hi,
if you want something local, you might not get the same atmosphere. Personally, I found it quite hard to find somewhere decent and yet below 100USD. If you do not mind pub grub, Lan Kwai Fong is really a great place to spend the new year.

Just be careful around LKF on NY's eve. There'll be lots of drunken people. And don't forget that NY Eve tragedy.
