How to estimate the amount of food needed.

I am having a lunch party of about 30 guests, 20 adults. I am estimating about 1/2 lb of meat per adult person, so a total of between 10 to 15 lbs of meat of several different kinds is that enough? I'll have a pork dish, a chicken dish, and a shrimp (which I am counting as meat) dish.

What about estimating the amount of veggies and a couple of pasta dishes? How is that done?

  1. Here's a guide that may help (as it says, not all at once!), This is for 100, so divide as needed.

    1. A standard restaurant portion would be 8z meat per adult, 4 oz per child, so you have that about right. (Unless there are vegetarians involved!) Sides are usually 3 or 4 oz each. If there are more men than women or vice versa, that could skew things a bit.
