Mauro's in Ossining (formerly Guida's)

Has anyone ever tried Mauro's in Ossining. I have heard it was pretty good.

  1. Skip it. Food is lacking. Guida's was much better.

I concur. My wife and I were there twice. The first time was a weeknight and they had first opened. The owners were friendly. My wife had duck which was not good. I had a veal dish (I think) and it was OK, if a little salty. The second time we went (January perhaps?) was a Saturday night. It was 8 p.m. so the rush was over but the place was still crowded. The hostess (one of the owners, I think) was not friendly. The service was slow and on the level of a casual restaurant. My saltimbuca was OK. My wife ordered linguine with shrimp, garlic, and oil. There were only 5 shrimp and the garlic was burnt and bitter. The pizzeria makes it better and for half the price. I don't mind paying top dollar - which this place charges - but I expect service and food worthy of the cost. It's a shame because it would be nice to have an good place on Main St. where you could have a drink and an appetizer at the bar or enjoy a good meal in the dining room. Zeph's in Peekskill is only two or three dollars more - not a lot when you are paying over $20 per entree and you get a salad with your meal - and the food and service is far superior.

I wholeheartedly agree about Zeph's (have not been to Mauro's) but I have been to Zeph's several times, most recently a couple weeks ago, and it's always been excellent. It's rare that a restaurant of this quality gives you a salad (and it happens to be delicious). Last time I got the short ribs and they were so tender they fell off the bone. Sorry I know that this thread is about Mauro's and I still want to try it but one thing I can't stand is rude service and after reading the above post I think I will wait till they get their act together.

I think I will mourn Guida's and skip Mauro's altogether. I can get good overpriced Italian without a salad much closer to home.

Glad to hear Zeph's is still good. It's been a very long time that I was there last, but it was an excellent experience.

I have been to Mauro's a few times. I have had good experiences. There was only one dish I didn't care for. I felt the prices for the food and service were quite acceptable. The last time I went, I noticed that they had changed out the carpet, it's quite beautiful and I was told by the waiter that the menu is being revamped. I will continue to go! So great to have a restaurant of this caliber in our area.

Was at Mauro's for Mother's Day. Food was great and so was the service. The place was packed.

I did decide to give Mauro's a try. I thought the food and serviice were both very good. They do have a very large menu and are willing to accommodate any request. I have been there for both lunch and dinner and I would go back again. I felt the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. I am glad to hear they were packed for Mother's Day.

I also decided to give it a try and I have to say it was a positive experience. The food and service were both good but I might add that it was on a weekday night that I tried it so not sure what to expect on weekends.

I have tried Mauro's on several occasions and every time i have been there the food and service were both excellent. The menu is eclectic with traditional aspects as well. The service at Mauro's was superior and the staff was very courteous and attentive. I will continue to go to Mauro's as often as I can and will be sure to tell friends and family about this wonderful restaurant!!!
