Literally stumbled onto this one while walking down the street a couple of doors north of Yunchuan (formerly Yunnan) Garden. Now seeing "Qingdao Bread Food" on a sign, what would you expect that they serve? First guess would be a bakery, but this was clearly a restaurant storefront so I'm thinking sandwiches. (Chinese sandwiches?) Well, in reality, Qingdao Bread Food serves almost nothing. They have sole dumplings (very good), pork dumplings and pork buns, plus four varieties (chicken, beef, pork and pork chop) of noodles, and that's about it. To give them credit, you do get your choice of leek or parsley with your fish dumplings, and leek or napa on the pork items, and they also have a handful of small appetizers (e.g., chitterlings). But this is probably the most concise menu I've ever seen in a sit down restaurant. I don't read Chinese, but I suspect that all the little banners including "50" on them means you can buy 50 frozen dumplings for between $15 and $20. This is total speculation on my part, but I'm wondering if this is one of those residential dumpling factories that decided to open up a legitimate retail location. Qingdao is at 301G N. Garfield.

I guess the menu is like Luscious except Luscious has a much greater variety (though strangely I believe they dropped the fish dumplings from their menu). Sole with parsley at Qingdao was excellent. I think I'll go back to see if I can get 50 of them frozen.

Had the Sole and Parsley Dumplings ($6.95) at Qingdao this afternoon, and they were ok. I liked the flavor of the sole/parsley filling. It seemed to also contain cilantro. There were a few other parties in there, which means it was practically full.

What raised a red flag for me was seeing the chef eating something right out of his hand and then preparing food for customers without washing up first.

From what I can tell, most of the crew over at Qingdao have arrived fairly recently from the old country. When I first went there and before I figured out their order slip system, I needed the help of one of their patrons to communicate my order. There hasn't been a lot of migration here from that part of China until fairly recently. Consequently it'll take them a little while to catch on to what passes muster in a restaurant setting.

They also have Lu-jiao, a type of pinwheel stuffed fried jiaozi dumpling.
