Wine Club Recommendations

euromichael Nov 19, 2007 12:10 PM

Hi, I'm a new resident to the Bay area and was wondering if anyone had any specific wine club recommendations. In particular, I'm looking for wine clubs that specialize in wines from this part of the country - either red or white or just reds.

All suggestions are appreciated.

I am a fan of the Santa Cruz Mountain Wine Club. They chose wines only from the aforementioned appellation, and generally have been quiet pleased with the picks. The wineries are almost exclusively small family run.

I would heartily recommend Vintner's Collective in Napa -- a co-op which specializes in small-production, artisinal producers who are too small to have their own tasting rooms. You will get really exceptional wines (both red and white).

In Sonoma County, I would recommend:
Bella Vineyards- zins, syrahs, late harvest - West Dry Creek Road, Healdsburg - www.bellawinery.com
              J Winery - Champagne & Pinots - Old Redwood Highway, Healdsburg - www.jwine.com
Wattle Creek - Malbec, Cabs, Geyserville - www.wattlecreek.com
All have great wine and great parties too. Also look at Dehlinger Winery - try and get on their mailing list - great microclimate grower with cult wines. Pinots, Cabs, Chardonnays. Check out their web site for a sale starting on Jan 2. www.dehlingerwinery.com. Once you're on the mailing list - you're in. They don't always have openings. Not really a club, but a following.

                Sonoma Healdsburg area:
Everett Ridge in the Healdsburg area ( www.EverettRidge.com ) has a quarterly wine club and we love their wines.. They have wines from Sonoma and Mendocino counties.. Mostly Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley. They have a wine club that you can choose red white or both..
