[BBQ near Asheville]

Looking for recommendation on good NC BBQ in the Asheville area. I have read some posts in the past that say there's is nothing in Asheville itself, I am willing to drive about 1.5hr. That is just where I'll will be staying

Drive to Bridges' Barbecue Lodge in Shelby. 2 hour round trip.

This was a really old post we're all chiming in on, mind you, but I'd just like to add that while 12 Bones is still our favorite in Asheville, we have also really been enjoying Luella's.

Many folks on this board sing the praises of Twelve Bones...if you do a search I'm sure you'll find lots of information.

Twelve Bones is good, but only open for lunch during the week. There is a new place in Swannanoa (exit 59 off I-40) called Okie Dokie's Smokehouse that has good barbecue. If you're willing to drive an hour down US 74 to Shelby, Bridges Barbecue Lodge is the best you'll find short of driving all the way to Lexington, NC.

We had Okie Dokie's for dinner tonight. It is cooked over wood - not electric. It was good, not great.
