New Year's Eve Dinner and Dancing Toronto?

I'm looking for somewhere for a nice dinner and dancing in Toronto for New Year's Eve. Web searches seem to keep coming up with club packages with "snacks at midnight"- not quite the meal I'm looking for this time.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Suggestions?

    1. What kind of music/dancing are you thinking of? :-)

I'm hoping to find something a little fancier this year - a nice meal and maybe jazz or a small band? My boyfriend and I are actually both ballroom dancers. But it's as much about the meal! ;)

The Reservoir Lounge isn't fancy, but has fantastic swing jazz/jump blues bands nightly. The food is passable and the atmosphere is great -- sort of a New Orleans speak easy feel.

For fancier, you should contact Mistura and Sopra Jazz Lounge above it and see what they are doing for NYE.

Mistura/Sopra is a good choice but may be quite costly. I read that Globe on the Danforth is also doing something but I don't know the details. Perhaps give them a call. If you are looking for ballroom, have you considered the 2 spots at Broadview and Danforth, Mambo or Red Violin?

      2. Thanks, I will try contacting those sugegestions and see if they are hosting any NY gatherings. Swing sounds like fun. Will report back in case anyone else is looking!

I'd be interested in knowing what you find out. My husband and I are looking for something similar. We were thinking Langdon Hall, but I think the crowd may be to old (we're in our 30's).

          1. re: RYP

We're also in our early 30s (OK, I'm about to hit my early 30s in a few weeks...). I plan to call some of the suggestions this week-end and see what I can find. I'll report back!

What did you wind up booking? Last minute plans to travel to Toronto w my father & boyfriend looking for great food. great jazz, & great peeps!

Wow, serious Memory Lane. We ended up going to a swing event that year, which was tons of fun but not quite the drinks/dinner/dancing NYE atmosphere we'd been looking for. Sadly the relationship broke up a few years later so I don't have any recent recommendations (great guy, just one of those things, I guess!)

          3. I think Azure in the Intercontinental does a five-course dinner with wine pairing and dancing to a DJ for New Years Eve. Haven't been myself but I remember thinking it was reasonably priced for what you get.

Also, possiblyu not the ambience you have in mind but the Old Mill has its New Year's Eve events listed on their website (scroll down about half way), dinner and dancing to an orchestra

            Old Mill
21 Old Mill Road, Toronto, ON M8X 1G5, CA

            Azure Restaurant & Bar
225 Front St W, Toronto, ON M5V2X3, CA

I was just speaking with Ed Ho from Globe Bistro today. They are just finalizing their new year's eve bash but it looks like they plan to do 2 seatings. First one is for the crowd that has somewhere else to go after dinner, so probably seating around 6 or so. I think he said 6 course tasting menu. Then the 2nd seating with same menu but live music and dancing afterwards. He did not have all the details as yet...hopefully end of week. Just thought I would post this update for everyone.

Bumping this up and hoping there's an update on info. I just found out I will be having a guest in for New Year's and I'm also looking for some place with great jazz/live band and good food.

Opal Lounge is nice but they are charging $225 for 6 course dinner and show (Brandi Disterheft Quintet)

Reservoir Lounge - Last year they charged $100 for dinner and show. $35 bucks just for the show but it's standing room only after 10 pm. Don't know how good the food is.

Hugh's Room has Chris Whitely performing - $110 dinner & show. Food is just ok.

I just phoned Sopra and they will be having a set menu and live band but they haven't nailed down the price -- hoping to do that this week.

Globe said the first sitting is 6:00 - 6:30 and it is regular a la carte. Second sitting is from 8:30 with a set menu for $145, includes champagne and live band / dancing -- Julie Micheals performing.

                Anything else?

                1. re: Degustation

Julie Michaels is a friend of the house at Globe -- she performed at their opening party -- and she rocks. Sounds like a winner!

You might want to call around to some banquet halls in the city/vaughn, etc. . . . some places just rent out seats and have a band/DJ after dinner is served. We used to go to Rizzo's banquet hall with my family - for full 5 course meal, then band with dancing. . . . quite fun, and the crowd was usually mixed.
Also most clubs in the city host something. Menage and the restaurant below them usually have a combo package, 100 or so for dinner and then access to the club upstairs. The only issue is the crowd i suppose.
                    Some clubs are 25+ though.
