For the sake of posterity, had I seen this Friday I would have suggested in NE:

If Nordeast is really an option I vote for the Modern Cafe.
Since I live so close to Calhoun Grill, I'll put in a plug for it. Not just because of my close proximity but because I really like the Cajun breakfast: Hashbrowns, fried eggs, fried bell peppers and onions, hollandaise - you know, health conscious diet food. My brother and my close friend go for the waffles and my brother (a coffee aficionado) got a very good cafe au lait there recently.

Yep, its still open and its still SO GOOD! The only thing I'm going to say is get there early. They are only open until 2 and there is always a very long wait...like 45 minutes...but its TOTALLY worth it. If you don't want to do that, theres a place called Muffaletta by Como Zoo that is great and kind of similar. In uptown, I love the breakfast/brunch options at French Meadows Cafe.
