view onto Georgetown

I am looking for a recommendation for tonight in Georgetown
mid-priced ($15-25 entrees).
nice view onto Georgetown (for my tourist cousin wanting to see Georgetown).
Indian, Turkish, Ethiopian.
NOT Mexican, Barbeque or American. NOT affilated with Old Ebbitt (Clyde's, etc.)
not too long of a wait for 2 at 6 PM.

let me know what you think!

  1. When you say view "onto" Georgetown what do you mean exactly? Looking out onto the street? Onto the University (which I don't think exists) etc.

The 2 places that come to mind that seem to have window seating looking out onto M Street (one of the main streets in Georgetown) would be the french restaurant Bistro Francais and Mendocino (which I haven't been to but hear great things).

Both restaurants will fit in your price range but just like any place it might help to call ahead, make a reservation, and request a window seat.

yeah i was talking about lower part Wisconsin or M Street. Otherwise, I would just take my cousin to the cafeteria at Georgetown and overlook the football field. i like Cafe Divan

I agree with Bistro. I absolutely love this place. If you go at 6pm, they have an early bird special where you get a glass of house wine, salad, entree, and dessert. I think it's $25.

6pm is a bit early for most Georgetown eaters, so it shouldn't be too crowded, but they take reservations, so try to make one if you can.

They also have the same type of special (appetizer, entree, and dessert with a glass of wine) as a "late-bird" special. I think you have to eat after 9pm but you might want to call and couple check.

I find there food pretty good in terms of basic French bistro cuisine. It's not the best in the city but its certainly what you are looking for.

Mendocino is a great suggestion- it is actually one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The only problem that you may run into there is price- I find it to be a little on the pricey side (I also find it to be well worth it).

Bistro Francais is def. decent- if you go, make sure you get their onion soup. I have never had an outstanding dessert experience there so you may want to skip it. If you still have a sweet tooth after dinner, try the bar at Citronelle. It is perhaps DC's most famous restaurant and they have some truely phenomenal desserts.

One more idea- Hook. It is a newer, trendy restaurant that specializes in sustainable seafood. Again, it may be just a little more expensive than you were going for but it may be worth it to check it out.

            Have fun!
