Agave Tequiliria - STL

I think this is open now. Has anyone gone there yet? It's my understanding that it's authentic Mexican cuisine and not in the Tex-mex, Americanized fashion.

  1. This is from The Daily Sauce - an email that Sauce Magazine sends out:

    Exciting and New

We just haven't been able to bring ourselves to order a Tequila Sunrise. Why the embarrassment? A Tequila Sunrise is very Love Boat, which we think is hilarious, but sometimes we're not sure if the bartender is feelin' the joke.

But that's water under the bridge, for there it was on the drinks list at the new Agave in The Grove: a Vallarta Sunrise. (Even more Love Boat!) And Agave's take goes beyond the usual OJ and grenadine syrup: Orange, lime and pineapple juices, along with Sauza Tres Generaciones Plata tequila, are added to a tall glass before cherry juice and a bit of grenadine settle in at the bottom. It's gorgeous, fruity and sweet – just like we dreamed it would be.

So thank you, Agave, for putting the Vallarta Sunrise on the menu. And we're serving notice, Harvey Wallbanger: We're coming for you next.

    Sauce pick: Vallarta Sunrise
Where to get it: Agave Mexican Table & Tequileria, 4198 Manchester Ave., St. Louis
    Info: 314.652.4283 or www.agavestl.com

Yeah, I had read that, which struck up my interest. I guess I'll just have to go and try it out. If I don't have expectations, I can't be let down!

    2. I was just browsing online about the restaurant, because some friends want to go Saturday, and the reviews seem iffy at best. Drinks are good but service is slow on a good night and rude often, they seem to run out of things, and ratings on the entrees seem low. So I don't know. Have any chowhounds made it there yet? Yay or nay?
