Hi.

Doing a two day visa run to HK from my home in Bangkok. It's my first trip to HK ever. I'll have space/time for:

-- Dinner Friday, on the late side...
-- DimSum Saturday...
-- Dinner Saturday...

(plus assorted random eating along the way)

i'm leaving in a few hours...maybe staying in Tsim Sha Tsui (still trying to call hotels)...

I want to eat Cantonese and local specialties exclusively. And open to all price ranges (dives, street food, world class seafood, etc). But, i'd love to find places where i can sit at the bar, or otherwise feel comfy going to solo.

Also, any recs on fun bars, arty/studenty coffeehouses, places w/ fun vibe.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Try Soho district in Central (2 MTR subway stops from Tsimshatsui) for trendy bars. Yung Kee on Wellington St (spitting distance from Soho) is great for authentic Cantonese eats (roast goose/pigeon, noodles, steamed fish).

For dim sum, ANY place in Tsimshatsui is good. But the one with most history is Luk Yu, Stanley St, Central.

Thanks. I shall explore the HKI side tomorrow. I got in late-ish tonight and i gotta say that my first evening's impression of the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon was highly negative, both in terms of decent after-10:30pm food options (very few! what the hell?) and in terms of bars (mostly all tacky Western-oriented things that belong at Epcot Center)

I don't know where you went for late nights. Try the area around Canton Rd, there should be plenty of options. But you have to go to the non-touristy areas a bit north of your tourist hotels.

i walked to Knutsford Terrace, and around Canton and Nathan Rds., and Ashley Rd and Haiphong Rd...i really didn't find much of anything interesting anywhere in this area...maybe if i went further north?...but north seemed deserted...
