Late night San Diego?

Josh Nov 15, 2007 06:03 PM

Been going out later in the evening lately, and it's been really disappointing to see how many places close between 9 and 10 pm. Apart from moving to a real city, what late night dining options do I have? I know there are many Asian spots open later, but what about more bistro style dining? Any help would be great, thanks.

Do any of the wine/"tapas" places stay open late? That seems like the right style of food.

On that note, I would kill for a cosy (i.e. not gaslamp club scene goes north) wine-by-the-glass and small plate place here in Pacific Beach. Even if they closed at 10.

      Turquoise, in North PB.

        Costa Brava, on Garnet.

Yeah, I've only been to Turquoise once but it is definitely kind of what I'm looking for. I'm a lazy pedestrian these days, though, and North PB is a bit far away.

Regarding Costa Brava, I really like it there but it has a fairly formal feel. Maybe that's because I've always sat in the main dining room, though, instead of at the bar or outside. Also, their menu, while good, is quite static and just has traditional Spanish items.

The last time I was in Seattle I went to a place called Black Bottle which epitomizes what I'm looking for (and was open late, as well).

3rd Corner is open late, until 2 am I think.

3rd Coner is probably your best bet, open late as the person above me commented on.

Yeah, thanks. Been there. Was hoping there was more than 1 option! Probably too much to hope for in this burg, but figured I'd try.

Commonwealth Cafe on 30th in North Park slightly north of Upas on the west side of the street near Blufoot Bar has basic American cuisine - not bad at all

Bite in Hillcrest serves dinner until 11- I know it isn't 2am, but it is better than 9... I've also had some good meals lately at the Ritual Tavern on 30th in North Park. They stay open later as well- I think they serve until 11:30.

Kous Kous Morrocan Bistro on 4th between Washington and University (below Martini's) is open late. Don't be scared of Morrocan Cuisine. It is flavorful but not spicy and everything is very healthfully prepared in this exotic restaurant run by a Morrocan born naturalized American citizen. The owner/chef is cheerful and friendly and the staff is helpful. Ask for a ticket for the indoor parking next door - they pay for your parking while you eat there! Go - you won't be sorry.
