it's not my birthday, but it was, and my parents want to take me and my boyfriend out for a good meal. only problem is, we're not sure where to go!
price isn't a concern (sorry dad!), but the food definitely is.
where's the best place to go in the city for something like this?
thanks!

  1. There's a similar post - 'Best high end dining in the GTA ' further down!

My guess is, at the end of this posting everyone of the following will get some sort of a mentioning: Amuse Bouche, Auberge du Pommier, Canoe, C5, Chiado, Colborne lane, George, Lucien, N44, Perigee, Scaramouche, Splendido, Susur, Sushi Kaji, Thuet, Truffles. On a given night they can all be 'stand-outs'. However, for special occasions and if price is no object, I would choose Splendido over the rest. I beleive they are the only restaurant that offers the complete package ( food, wine, service, ambience, decor ).

Enjoy!!!! and don't forget to report back!

Out of these listed, my top 3 would be Scaramouche, Splendido, and Auberge - just maybe not in that order - hard to decide. Auberge has always had impeccable service. Just revisited Susur last month after a long hiatus, and I was still very happy with everything.

    2. In my opinion, Scaramouche is a beautiful place to dine if you can get the window seat, but for food, I do prefer Splendido and Susur. Splendido is the whole package (some may find the service too attentive) whereas Susur is adventurous. Personally, it is my top 3 in TO for fine dining.

Hay skylineR33, I've heard from 2 separate sources recently that Canoe's cooking is getting more and more impressive! Also, Canoe's chef Anthony Walsh just won the gold medal in a cook-off charity event that include Stadlander, Loseto, Aprile, Susur.....
BTW, another of O&B restaurant - Auberge du Pommier is also on the rise since the owner wanted to enter it into 'Relais and Chateaux'
Two potential re-visits for Toronto CH down the road!

      2. Auberge is a fantastic restaurant....two visits over three years and aces alll around

        1. We were in TO over the weekend and had a wonderful meal at Splendido. Have previously been to Susur, Canoe, Thuet but Splendido really impressed me. Was it the food the best I have ever had ? - no, but close (the best has to be Alinea in Chicago). The service was really great. Did not love the room all that much - early on it was a bit empty however as more people arrived, it livened up.
Also went to Lee which I love for its intense flavors although would not regard it as top notch.
