Les Délices de la Casbah
After delicious if somewhat noisy dinner at Le Coin Mexicain. My girlfriend dragged me into this new (to me) Algerian bakery and café on the south side of Jean-Talon.
They have a large selection of Algerian pastries, most of which are quite intricately decorated with marzipan. The flavours are typical of oriental pastry: rosewater, almond, pistachio, etc, but the presentation is a notch above. We bought six random pastries and took them home. They were delicious. Not too sweet and very well balanced flavours.
They also make bread and croisants, sandwiches, pizzas and have an espresso machine.
The pastries are definitlely worth checking out.

Has this place closed down? I was by this establishment yesterday, & it was closed. I asked next door at Le Coin Mexicain, & if I understood correctly from them, Les Delices de la Casbah has indeed closed permanently. Sorry I never checked out their Algerian pastries. Anywhere else in Montreal for very good Algerian pastries? I just tried calling the phone number in Robert Beauchemin's La Presse article, & the number for Les Delices de la Casbah has been disconnected.
