Les Délices de la Casbah

  • 6

After delicious if somewhat noisy dinner at Le Coin Mexicain. My girlfriend dragged me into this new (to me) Algerian bakery and café on the south side of Jean-Talon.

They have a large selection of Algerian pastries, most of which are quite intricately decorated with marzipan. The flavours are typical of oriental pastry: rosewater, almond, pistachio, etc, but the presentation is a notch above. We bought six random pastries and took them home. They were delicious. Not too sweet and very well balanced flavours.

They also make bread and croisants, sandwiches, pizzas and have an espresso machine.

The pastries are definitlely worth checking out.

  1. This was an awesome discovery for me too. They are absolutely beautiful little pastries!
And when I tasted them I was sold. An assortment of these on a large tray at a party would be a huge hit, I'm sure. I just wish I knew what what each of them is called.

    1. Did you go to le coin mexicain or the New Ptit coin mexicain , next door from Les
Délices ? Do you know if they are the same owners ( The mexican joints).

Glad to hear good things about Les Délices , since I live about 2 minutes walk from there ! ,

We went to the orignal, but the I reckon the new Petit Coin is owned by the same people as it is advertised inside Le Coin Mexicain.

Thank you. This new mexican place look abit more comfortable then the other , so it could make for a more "relaxed" atmosphere !

      2. Has this place closed down? I was by this establishment yesterday, & it was closed. I asked next door at Le Coin Mexicain, & if I understood correctly from them, Les Delices de la Casbah has indeed closed permanently. Sorry I never checked out their Algerian pastries. Anywhere else in Montreal for very good Algerian pastries? I just tried calling the phone number in Robert Beauchemin's La Presse article, & the number for Les Delices de la Casbah has been disconnected.

It's sad to see a good place go bust. I must admit I hadn't gone back since it's so far from where we live now.

I recall seeing a Maghrebi bakery on Jean-Talon a bit west of Henri-Julien on the North side. I haven't checked it out yet. I don't know if it's new either.
