Hells Kitchen Spots

johnk Nov 15, 2007 06:08 AM

A friend of mine is spending 4 night at the Westin on W43rd Street while attending a convention at the Javits Center.
Need some advice on moderately priced casual bistro/cafe type places near there on 9th and 10th Avenues.
Also, some bar scene places after work would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
JK

Landsdowne Road. It's a beer/sports bar. Nice enough place... pubby, etc.

Nook is BYOB and very reasonably priced (9th and 51st)
44 Southwest is pretty good Italian (9th and 44th)
There's some very cheap Brazilian and Mexican in the low 40s on 9th and 10th Ave. (don't remember the names of them)

Daisy May's (46th and 11th), Pepe Giallo (25th and 10th), Cookshop (20th and 10th), Pam Real or Wonde Siam on 9th Ave for Thai.

the Half King is a pretty good bar/pub too - with good food (23rd and 10th)

Just tried Chelsea Grill on 9th Avenue between 46th & 47th after reading about it on the boards here--went for lunch Thursday for a co-worker's birthday. It was really very nice. It was pretty quiet but the waitstaff was friendly, attentive and service was quick! Burgers were awesome, shrimp appy was nice too! The homemade potato chips in baskets on the table were really great!! Cozy atmosphere -small!

Burgers there are awesome, but the couple times I've been the service has been downright laughable and ridiculous.

                      Really like West Bank ALOT.
                      Rachels
                      44 and 44 1/2 are really good
                      Nicks
Westside Sushi (very low brow basic)
                      Wondee Siam
                      Vinyl-burgers
                      Matt's Grill-burgers

Also, all the restaurants on 47th Street in the theatre district are offering 15% off due to the theatre strike to drum up biz. The list is on wcbstv.com That could be interesting. Might be some good bargains.
