Chorizo?

Looking to make chorizo and cornbread pudding as a side on Thanksgiving--anyone know where to find good chorizo?

The absolute best place to buy sausage of any kind, IMO, including chorizo is from the Smokehouse in Norwell. They also sell through Savernor's.

They are handmade and sold almost exclusively to high end restaurants but have those two retail outlets as well as a website. http://sausageheaven.com/

The Globe did a write up on them:http://www.boston.com/ae/food/article...

I recently bought Niman Ranch chorizo at Russo's in Watertown and it was very good.

Russo's usually has a cheaper brand that is also excellent.

Formaggio in Cambridge also sells it, and then you get to sample all those cheeses...

I picked up some Chorizo at Savenor's in Beacon Hill this weekend that was very good. Nice and fresh!

Capone's used to have a great chorizo, but alas the provider signed an exclusive deal with Whole Foods. And, our local Whole Foods doesn't carry it. Capone's now stocks another brand from Spain which is good, but not great.

The chorizo at Wilson Farms is really nasty. The only flavor is red peppers. Hard to believe that there is any meat in there at all. My next try will be the chorizo at Savenor's. Their andouille is well-worth eating, so I have high hopes.

Please report back if you find a high quality and tasty source.

Are you referring to the Palacios brand chorizo? I've bought that at Capone's. I may also have seen it at the Wine and Cheese Cask, but if they've got an exclusive deal with WF I guess it's not there anymore. I've bought the Gaspar's brand chourico (Portuguese spelling) from Market Basket before and found it totally acceptable. I can't recall now exactly the way in which it differed from Palacios, but it definitely was a decent substitute. Their linquica sausage is also good but milder than the chourico. Gaspar's is a N. Dartmouth, Mass.-based company started by a Portuguese immigrant, but it supplies to markets nationally.
