Absinthe in NoVA/DC/MD - where to find

Now that absinthe is legal and with wormwood no less, I'd like to get my hands on a bottle. Does anyone know where in the NoVA/DC/MD area I can get a bottle? Brands I've read about and get good reviews are: Lucid, Marteau Verte Classique, and Kubler.

I haven't yet looked for it at any liquor stores, but figured this kind of stuff would only be available at the better establishments.

    1. "A couple more weeks, we *should* be receiving it just after the New Year (2008)" Was what I was told, as I just got off the telephone with two very helpful Customer Service Liaisons [One from Calvert Woodley Liquors (202) 966-4400 and the other from Schneider's Of Capitol Hill (202) 543-9300].

Does anyone know of another local Liquor establishment that may have "The Real Stuff" in stock?

I called Schneider's last week and was told they've been waiting for a while. Aparently for a brand called Green Moon. That one's new to me. I just know of Kubler and Lucid. There's also a brand from SF to be released locally out there on the 21. I think it's called St. John or St. Edward. A friend of mine was in NYC this weekend and at every liquor store she went to was told the same thing: flew of the shelves, none until after Dec 31.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

      2. The Virginia ABC in Sterling has 1 brand available. I don't recall the brand, unfortunately.

        1. Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits, on Connecticut Avenue in Cleveland Park, now has Lucid; I just bought a bottle. I asked about Kubler and they said that they would be getting that once their local distributor starts carrying it, which should be soon.

Great, thanks for the update. I got a bottle of Lucid for Christmas - good stuff. I've never had absinthe, so it's been an adventure; powerful stuff it is. I'm looking forward to getting another brand.

Would you mind telling me how much you paid?

              Montgomery County Liquor & Wine (Gaithersburg) - I bought a bottle of LUCID (750ml) lastnight for $66.94 ($63.15 + $3.79 Tax).

              Powerful stuff!

            1. Local VA ABC stores carry it. I know the McLean ABC store had three or four different absinthes last week. You can check out the VA ABC web site for specific info on the producers.
