Getting Rid of Used Cooking Oil

rillettes Nov 14, 2007 06:39 AM

Does anyone know where to get rid of used cooking oil in Montreal?
We're not talking vast quantities here, mind you, but I'm guessing that anyone who has modified their motor could get some free mileage out of this.

If you put an ad on Craig's List or on the Montreal Freecycle list you may get some takers from those bio-diesel folks. Otherwise, I'd call the main Complexe Environnemental in Saint-Michel (HQ for the Ecocentres):

Whilie they don't list used cooking oil among the accepted materials at the local Ecocentres, they may be able to refer you to somewhere else:

Go to the Eco-Quartier nearest you, would be my guess (but call first.).

I've heard you can throw it in the compost pile. I just go dump it in a sandy area at the back of my property.

On the list of instructions that came with my composter, oil is listed as one of the items not to put in, so I wouldn't recommend it.
