Fifth Avenue CIPRIANI - "Poor" [moved from Manhattan board]

The NY Times review today gives 0 star to CIPRIANI and marks it as 'POOR'

This makes me wonder if there has been any restaurants given a 'poor' mark before. I have seen some 'satisfactory' but never this bad of a review.

what is it about bad reviews that I love...the last time Frank smacked down a restaurant this hard was the Chodrow-owned Ninja restaurant...the wierdest thing, however, is the worse the review, the more I want to go to the place to experience the disspointing dining experience myself....odd and almost masochistic.

Wasn't it Frank's review of Kobe Club that led Chodorow to put up a blog in defense?! Will Jeffrey come to Cipriani's defense?!

The pricing is bizarre. What's with the .95 appended to every dish? It's not like anyone is going to think they're getting a bargain when they order fried calamari for $34.95!

I'm always suspicious of restaurants that don't use whole numbers in their prices.

Great review! My in-laws love that place - I've not been - but my husband has often commented on the exhorbitant pricing, though he enjoyed his veal chop there.

I think that is my all time favorite Bruni review. Attaboy, Frank, call them out!

Read the review to my husband this morning who got a big chuckle out of it. He mentioned that he had pasta, not the veal chop, since it was one of the cheaper things on the menu. Said he recognized about half the people there - a lot of wealthy Latin Americans, as well as NY society types.

I ate at Cipriani downtown on west Broadway and it was probably a 0 also. If Matt Damon had not walked in and made my day, sadly he did not sit at my table, I would have hated my lunch. The food was very ordinary, I had the beef carpaccio, and the waiters were snobbish and rude! Go there only if you wish to eat outside and watch people go by.
