March Moderne - Costa Mesa

I've read great things (La Times, OC Weekly). Has anyone been lately? What would you recommend? Going Friday and in need of some good chow.

Went there a few weeks ago and everyone in our party thought the food was excellent ! We went with S.I. Vribela's recommendations in her LA Times review, and we were not disappointed. I don't always agree with her reviews, but IMO she nailed this one.

I've been twice, last time a couple of months ago. We like it a lot, but think that its reviews are somewhat inflated. The service has been spotty both times we were there. The menu is a bit inconsistent, e.g., the like a coq au vin is great, but the "gnocchi" served with it were simply awful. The desserts were also underwhelming both times that we were there. Also, keep in mind that it is in a mall, so while on a Friday night, there will be some elderly gentlemen with their "neices," a pre-theatre and foodie crowd, there may also be gaggles of shoppers with bags (I mention this because the first time I was there we were seated across from a table of ten diners and 20 shopping bags, and got bumped into several times by them).

I've been a few times and I agree about the space, it does not look like you are jammed in it really feels that way. I have found the food to be pretty good on all but one visit...they are super gentle with the salt which is a problem for me. The thing I really like about it is the food seems pretty focused and I never walk away feeling like they were trying too hard.
