Fruit Island - Italian Yogurt ? No Thanks!

I guess that I just have to rant a little about the never ending topic of the frozen “Italian” yogurt.
I’m a huge fan of Ce fiore and Pinkberry does not offend my taste buds.
So today during my lunch break I opted to stop by the Fruit Island which claims by its huge storefront signs of being a unique “Italian Yogurt” and mentioned a list of several health benefits from eating it; which made me chuckle a bit since it felt like a new wonder drug promotion.
Never the less I entered the empty shop and realized that it is a self serve chain and continued to fill a small cup of the “original flavor” into my cup – the yogurt substance felt more thick than most. Then I went to add some toppings from the bar and they just looked like washed up frozen fruits only 4 varieties (pineapple, mango, strawberry and kiwi)
I got all but the pineapple and indeed they were frozen and it made me get nostalgic about Ce fiores’ fresh blueberries and raspberries.
The only item that saved the bar was the bitter chocolate chips.
So I proceeded to put my cup on the weight and lord behold my total came to over $5.00 – what, what, what. What?!?
So I paid and asked for my lid since I was taking it back to the office and with a nonchalant response I was told that there were no lids provided.
So as for the actual taste-it resembled the usual suspects and it seemed way too frozen. Not a fan of frozen fruit so that left me with a $5.00 up of bitter choco chips to enjoy.
I chuckled yet again and realized that I should for once just stick to what I know and like and stop trying to participate in the yogurt wars.
The end.

  1. And where would this place be? I know the self-serve yogurt place in the Eagle Rock Mall is horrible too.

This particular location is on Huntington Dr. in Arcadia next to Basil Thai. I presume its a chain.

i'm gonna have to try ce fiore one of these days, but until i do, i'm sticking to my contention that no one has better fro yo than sno:la in beverly hills.

They just opened one up on Hollywood Blvd. but in midst of the Hollywood / Vine madness.

          2. I like the Fruit Island Yogurt, especially mango, strawberry, blueberry and original.

It is self-services store. I can choose my favorite toppings and yogurt by myself. They have many fresh fruit. I choose the Blackberry, Raspberry and chocolates. There are so many toppings that I don’t have idea to choose. I think the prices is by weight is better than other yogurt store. I paid what I want.

Usually they have the cups for to go with a lip. I bought two cups going home to my parents for trying. They like them very much and they want to go to store this Saturday.

Ha ha ha~~~~~~~~~~ a great place!

            1. But where else can you get taro flavor Italian yogurt? And the mango flavor is very good. By the way this appears to be their only location.
