Quick cheap restaurant near Grand Central

Heading back to Grand Central after the Christmas show tomorrow and I am looking for an inexpensive restaurant to get a quick bite before taking the train back home. Less than $20.00 p.p. would be good.We are going to the 2pm show so I am thinking the time will be around 5pm. Anything ethnic?

  1. Plenty of Japanese restaurants in the neighborhood. I like Menchanko tei (45th St, bet lex and 3rd) for a big bowl of soupy noodles or Katsuhama (47th, between 5th and Madison) for crispy fried stuff (most famous of pork katsu), plain, curried or in eggy ricebowls. An even cheaper japanese option is to get bentos from Cafe Zaiya, and a few slices of cake or cream puffs to eat on the train.

Just went to Menchanko-tei on 45th st at Lex and liked it. Very quick service and the lunch special portions are HUGE. Perfect for sharing and nice calming decor in the midst of mid-town chaos.

    2. On your way from the Music Hall to G.C., you could stop at Wu Liang Ye, on 48th, b/t 5th & 6th, for very good Szechuan cuisine.

      1. There's a great Filipino restaurant with very friendly owners on 45th. Bayan Cafe, between 3rd and 2nd.

Know the thread is old, but for the sake of completeness, Bayan Cafe closed about 6 months ago.

I think particularly you'll have a nice time at Brother Jimmy's in the Terminal. The food I had there was expectation-shatteringly good.
