Travelling from NY to Philly. Any decent lunch places for the family on the way? The earlier on the trip the better (first half of the turnpike). Ethnic would be great but not required and less than 15 minutes from the exit. An added plus would be a kick butt, full range liquor store to pick up hard to find provisions along the same or close by route. Thanks in advance for any help

I recommend Holy Cow Grill, just off Exit 8 (Hightstown). It's Pan-Latin (owners are Columbian and Dominican), and the food is really delicious.

Directions: Exit 8 NJTP to Route 33 East. Holy Cow Grill is about a mile or so on your right in Twin Rivers Shopping Center. You can't see it from Rt. 33, but it's behind a large CVS Pharmacy.

My advice is to stay on the road for the entire 1.5 hours and eat in Philadelphia. There are many choices and they're all better than anything you'll find near the turnpike. Go to the Reading Terminal Market or look on HollyEats for suggestions http://www.hollyeats.com/Philadelphia.htm

Here's a link to my post on the mid-Atlantic board a few months ago asking for recs between NY and DC. Several suggestions for eats off the turnpike, some are about mid-way down. Hope it helps.
