Need casual place for drinks and apps in gramercy park area

My boyfriend and I are coming to visit old friends in the city. (I lived there for 7 yrs before I met him.) We are looking for a casual low key place where we can catch up and chat with old friends. We will be wanting drinks and appetizer type foods. We arent arriving until 9ish so we wont be out until around 9:30. Thanks NY'ers!

While I also like Grand Saloon- it's kind of grimey. I second Pipa and add MetroCafe & Wine Bar. They have small plates and it's usually busy but not crazy. Also in the area is Wined Up which is a casuel wine bar above Punch restaurant that serves little plates and has a lot of tables. The House is another option in the area. While I found the food only so so, the bar atmosphere is gorgeous and calm with good beers & wine. Enjoy!

grand saloon is more of a bar if that is what you are looking for. sala is good spot for tapas and sangria. pipa is good but might be too loud for you.
