Ethnic food near CBC

I have a friend visiting for a few hours who will be working at the CBC. She's from a small town where the only restaurants have pub food and italian grub.

I'd like to take her out for dinner for some good ethnic food (ie. something she can't get in her rural Ontario town). Anything goes that is reasonably priced, but it needs to be near the CBC building on Front as we will have limited time in the evening. We're both up for something interesting. Any thoughts?

Little India (the restaurant, not the neighbourhood) is a short walk west along Queen. Some of the best butter chicken in the city, super friendly staff, cosy vibe, and affordable. Great introduction for someone who's not had much (or any!) Indian food before.

Ematei at St. Patrick and Queen is fairly authentic Japanese, but with a focus more on hearty cooked foods than sushi or sashimi. Homey "wood cabin" vibe and not very expensive.

I'd recommend steering clear of any restaurants along Front St W. near the convention centre, and along King St. W. west of Roy Thompson. These are really geared towards tourists and show-goers and you won't find much there you can't get in any chain restaurant across Ontario.

I definitely second Little India. I've only ever been there for their fabulous lunch buffet, but I'm hopeful that their dinner is top notch as well.

Ceecee, you are also near the convention centre there. The above link has some interesting choices. I particularly like Kings Court for Chinese or Take Sushi for Japanese - in that neighborhood. You can also make your way over to Spadina and have your choice of Chinese and Vietnamese food. You might want to search this board to narrow down your choices if you are looking for the best spots on Spadina.

Note that Kings Court has closed down.

Sorry, I meant Kings Garden at Simcoe St. Is it closed? Based on the crowds, I can't believe it would close.

          Please let me know.
          thanks
