Customshop Charlotte - not worth it?

We have friend who have dined at the much hyped Pasternack restaurant, Customshop on Elizabeth Avenue. On both occassions, our friends say the service was terrible and the food mediocre. The second visit was particularly bad. Two of four entrees were sent back to the kitchen for being greatly under cooked. It seems the kitchen decided to get revenge, as they sent the replacement entress out overcooked to the point of being inedible. Our friend has asked us to try it for ourselves to see if we agree with his assessment.

Any Chowhounds out there who have tried this place yet?

I went there the week after it opened w/ my husband. The service was atrocious, the tables were cramped together NY deli style, and the food was ridiculously expensive and horrid. we both ordered a different appetizer and entree and everything was badly planned, bland, poorly plated and well overpriced. Only one person I know has mentioned a good experience w/ this place, and he's a middle-aged hipster w/ the palate of a bull. Customshop was a huge disappointment. I'm embarrassed that I fell for the over-hype surrounding this place.

Based on my one visit, your friends are right. You can read my (lengthy) review here:

I know that professional reviewers would never make a decision on a restaurant based on a single visit, but unfortunately I don't have a professional reviewer's budget, so I won't be taking any more chances at customshop.
