Death by feijoada crawl part 3 – Brazil Cafe

For those who would like to try feijoada WITHOUT seeing or even eating less usual pig parts, Brazil Café is the place.
The bean stew is heavy on garlic, so this isn’t a dish to eat on a date.
The farofa had a buttery taste with maybe a little bacon.
The beans have pieces of beef and pork. There were a few small 1 inch pieces of bone-on ribs, the flat-boned sparerib type. There MIGHT have been a slice of sausage in it, but I forget … seems like I remember seeing maybe a slice or two.
This was the smallest serving of the three versions I tried … enough for one normal appetite. There was a small amount of couve (shredded collard greens), maybe two bites. It wasn’t dressed with anything like bacon or garlic, but then again the garlic flavor was in the beans … lots of garlic flavor there … lots and lots.
There was a little green salad with some corn mixed in.
It also came with white rice and lots of orange pieces.
There was absolutely none of the following:
*Carne seca (dried salt-cured beef)
*Rabinho (pig's tail)
*Orelha (fresh pig's ears)
*Pe de porco (pork skin)
It was a tasty satisfying meal, but not in the same class as the version of 25 West.
Brazil Café is now offering a Brazilian entrée of the day and two snacks, pao de quiejo (cheese bread) and coxinha (a chicken-thigh shaped thingy). The café doesn’t make these because the flour to make them is difficult to get, so they rely on a frozen version which I suspect many of the Brazilian restaurants use.
The dish of the day for Saturday is the feijoada
Monday – Beef Acebolada
Tuesday & Thursday – Chicken stroganoff
Wednesday – Bacahula (cod fish over rice)
Friday – Catch of the day
They had passion fruit mousse for dessert, but I didn’t try it. A sign said they will cater Brazilian parties, even providing music.
So my curiosity about feijoada is satisfied. In my opinion, 25 West is the clear winner. Now excuse me while I clear my arteries.
