best grocery store sheet cake?

I can't believe I'm asking about this on Chowhound of all places but.... does anyone have any recommendations on where to get the best possible suburban-grocery-store-style sheet cake (you know, the kind with the too sugary frosting and pictures of cartoon characters...) in Manhattan? Thanks!

  1. If there is a Costo ior BJ's n Manh, those would be the places...Their cakes cannot be beaten for price and they make very acceptable sheet cakes

No Costco in Manhattan, but you can get them in Brooklyn or Queens.

There is a Costco in Queens - Long Island City - so not far at all from Manhattan. Pretty good sheet cake.

Food Emporium's are good and so are Fairway's. Food Emporium is cheaper. Is it for a kid's party?

      2. Thanks for the advice! I think I'll try Food Emporium since it's closer to my apartment than a Fairway would be.

The Food Emporium on 8th & 49th is especially good I have found.

The Food Emporium on 59th and 1st also might work. It's so fancy that you can't get a bag of Oreos there, but the cakes are good :)

The FE-Bridge Market on 1st and 59th is in a really nice space, and I think the overall vibe there reflects that. Quality there is a cut above most other FE's and you can expect to pay a tad bit more too.

          2. I work birthday parties at a children's learning center and we get custom theme sheet cakes from the Food Emporium. The cakes are made to order, beautifully decorated and are delicious. The price is right. Huge variety to choose from...look thru their book.
