Marcel's or Saint Tropez

  • 4

Please don't judge me, but I need to make a decision between Marcel's and Saint Tropez. I know they are not great and mostly tourist traps but there you go. I've been to neither and wonder if they are pretty much the same regarding food, price, ambience and service or if one is better than the other. If anyone has been let me know.

  1. Noooooo! NEITHER. I'm not judging you. But, seriously, neither.

Don't tell me it's got to be one or the other. Because it doesn't.

    1. If you're looking for something French and relatively authentic in the King West area go to Le Select on Wellington, west of Spadina. It's not the greatest bistro in the world mind you, but is much, much better than Marcel's and Saint Tropez. I agree with Fwagra and Magret, if you can in any way avoid Marcel's and Saint Tropez, do!

      1. IIRC, the two are essentially one and the same, though there are slight variations in the menu and pricing. Le Saint Tropez bills itself as a more casual type of joint, but you'd never know it since the prices are on par with the "classier" Marcel's upstairs.

Heck, they even used the same web designer when they put together their webpages:

        1. Since you seem acutely aware of the advice you would likely get - and you've gotten it - perhaps you could share with us the reasons why you must make this Hobson's choice.

I, also, can't recommend either one. Just toss a coin.
