We were in town this weekend from Philadelphia for a family event and just lucked out finding dd33, a really cool Asian bistro. The food was inventive and fantastic. If you live in the Richmond area you should give it a try.
I just went for the first time last night despite living very close and have to say that i was very impressed. The decor is very nice and you certainly lose the sense that you are in a suburban strip mall. Started with a strawberry/vodka/basil drink that was nice. not at all sweet. my husband had a sapporo. split the tempura shrimp appetizer which were fabulous - perfectly prepared - with a siracha aoli and sweet chili oil.
For entrees my husband had the 5-spice/teriyaki ribs (a huge half rack) served with a grilled corn succotash that i really liked. it was supposed to come with mashed sweet potatoes (which probably would have been a better pairing but he doesn't like) so my hubby subbed for wasabi mashed potatoes which tasted quite good.
i had macadamia nut crusted mahi on sugar cane skewers with a green curry and coconut sticky rice. tasted fabulous. only complaint was that there could've been more sauce for me - but it was spicy enough that some people might not want too much on the plate.
not inexpensive but a great evening. would definitely go back. they certainly weren't packed on a friday night which was sad.
