In search of walnut macaroons/cookies comparable to Hungarian Pastry Shop's cookies

Hi everyone!

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I've scoured this website for answers to my question, but haven't found any.

So I used to live on the UWS and go to the Hungarian Pastry Shop for my weekly walnut macaroon fix. Now I live in Jersey and only commute into the city for classes at NYU. Does anyone know of a place in and/or around the NYU campus, within walking distance, that has these delicious morsels of heaven? I'm planning to get some for my boyfriend and his mom, but really don't want to travel 1.5 hours up to Columbia just to get some cookies!

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

  1. I used to live up there, too, but didn't discover those amazing things until a few months ago. I can't stop thinking about them. Like you, I live just downtown, but it seems so far to go for cookies. But really, it's not is it, esp. if we're obsessed with them? I don't know of anyplace else that makes them. I think I have to go up there. I also really miss Absolute Bagels (BEST in city) on Bway and 107th so I'll kill two birds. If you find downtown walnut macaroons, do tell!

    1. I don't think they're walnut macaroons, but you should try out Claude's Patisserie on West 4th between 6th Avenue and 7th Ave.

Great pastries all the time, and luckily, I live a block away :)

I've heard good things on this board about the croissants at Claude's,but have never tried the desserts. Once spring semester picks up again, I really should try it. Thanks for the suggestion!
