Trout (the shack, not the fish) in the Winter

nonincriminating Nov 11, 2007 06:49 PM

I've only been there outdoors during the summertime, and I can't remember--do they have indoor seating? Or is this strictly a seasonal spot, like Gowanus Yacht Club?

Went last weekend, sat by the fire, had a pitcher of beer, and an order of mac n' cheese...heavenly.

They've taken over Gravy, so there's an indoor component now.

That said, they no longer serve garbage plates, so no real interest for me ...

Taken over? Hardly. Gravy and Trout were two businesses owned by the same people, sharing staff, restrooms, and a kitchen. Trout took off (mentioned in NY Mag) was crowded every night, and Gravy never went anywhere (they should have - I always got good service, great sweet potato fries, and amazing ribs). As winter came, the owners made a smart business call and re-branded gravy as "Big Trout" - the menu has barely changed, the beers, decor, and staff are all the same, but now a few more people come out. They've gotten rid of the sweet potato fries and ribs, but they have fries with herbs and bay seasoning that almost makes up for it. Great fireplace and hot drinks in the winter too.
