I'm new to LA and wanted to know a good restaurant to take my mom to for a pre-christmas dinner. I want it to look festive and have great food. Price doesn't matter... Hope someone has some good suggestions.

I've been to this place several times for Christmas Eve buffet - A little pricey but, very festive, fun and yummy! http://www.missioninn.com
Make sure you take in this event as well. Even if you don't go for dinner:
Mission Inn’s Festival of Lights Get into the holiday spirit with the Festival of Lights at the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa! The Festival of Lights features over two million brilliant lights as well as hundreds of angels, animated elves & carolers that come alive throughout the property.

I love the Tam O' Shanter during Christmas - lots of festive lights, holly, carolers all dressed up like something out of Dickens, etc. I'm not sure when they start doing this, so call first. The food is American comfort, with prime rib being a specialty. They also have a full bar. I make it a annual tradition to go there during this time of year. It really puts me in the Holiday spirit. Here's the address:

      TAM O'SHANTER
      2980 Los Feliz Blvd.
      Atwater Village
