Pear cider....
I stopped at Honeypot Orchards today and they had something new to me....Pear Cider. It was very very good and I bought some to take home. It got me thinking....are there any other kinds of cider I'm missing and are there any places closer to Boston that have them?

There's a Swedish pear cider that you can sometimes find, although it tends to be sparkling and more like pear soda. There's a brand called Kopparberg's that has some alcohol that you can buy in stores and pubs there--quite fizzy, light and clear, not too sweet but not the most natural pear flavor either. I've heard that people find it now and then from places here, e.g., Marty's in Newton.

I had some last year and it was wonderful, which was why we went back there to go apple picking last month.
When we asked them for pear cider, they said they weren't making it this year because they didn't have a surplus of pears. Guess we were lied to or they changed their minds!

There's also a hard cider called "Sir William's Perry" -

re: hoplover
Honeypot is open through Dec. and then the first 2 weekends in Jan. They then close until July. I'm going back towards the end of Dec to get some to freeze as well as a few of their yummy apple pies. I'd never heard of it nevermind heard of perry. I grew up in New England. I wonder what else I'm missing.....
