private dining gems?

Dinner for 12 in Manhattan. Loved the look of Il Buco but they charge around 4,000 minimum for a wednesday night. Argh!

    il buco has a minimum. i have found a lot of places have begun to charge a minimum when booking large parties. alta is good for tapas, they have a room that could accomodate the 12 of you. i am going through the same thing right now but we are a group of 15. cuba has a private room. food is good not great. stanton social has a private mezzanine. do you want price fixed or regular menu?

      Although everyone insists that Per Se will only do 10 in their private room, there were 12 there last time I went. If you have never enjoyed dining at Per Se, it really is an incredibly wonderful experience.

        i had a dinner in the wine cellar room at il buco a couple years ago and there was no huge fee. are you certain this is correct info?

        and if you like that kind of atmosphere - try aroma wine bar on east 4th. they have a lovely room that can seat up to 22.

        Have you decided on anything? I am looking for something similar -- just trying to decide where. I had no idea Il Buco would be so much; I guess I am taking that one off my list...

          Insieme has a great private room and the minimum is $2500. Craft has one too, and I think that one's $3000

          Had dinner for 8 at Tocqueville last week and it was just wonderful. They have a private room upstairs and it was perfect. No extra fees just great food in a lovely private place.

            Here are a few suggestions:

            Felidia
            Tao
            Devin Tavern

              Tocqueville has a private dining room. So does Congee Village. The new Zagat guide has a list in back of a hundred restaurants that have private dining rooms.
