11 Madison Park...

My wife and I went to 11 Madison Park last night for her birthday. I had called and made a reservation about a month in advanced. We were seated in an elegant room which was enormous in size. The décor is stunning with beautiful tables, which are quite large, even the two well as the art décor feel that one has in the main dinning room.

I was given the wine list and had done quite a bit of homework with my oneophile friends. The sommelier was kind, not intrusive and very knowledgeable. I asked about wine pairing with the three course meal and he said that could be accomplished, he was also quick to point out that choose a bottle that you like instead of what you think would go well with the food. I settled on a 2005 Paul Pernot White Burgundy.

We first ordered the duck for two as the main entrée and then opted for the sweetbreads and the bouillabaisse. The kitchen sent out a nice selection of hors d’oeuvres and a cleansing palate broth before the appetizers. The wine was also nice as well. And of course the service was exceptional. The only gripe was that the butter was quite chilled which made spreading it on bread a little tough…

  1. hahahaha......unspreadable butter is a big pet peeve of mine as well. That said, if that was the biggest problem, you were way ahead of the game.

      I agree about the butter. There's really no excuse for it. I'm also a bit bummed that EMP now serves a round wheel of butter, instead of one shaped like a maple leaf. But then again, if these are the things we quibble about...
