Sripraphai (Queens, NY) or Lotus of Siam (Las Vegas)?
Which is the better Thai restaurant? I've heard both places praised to death on Chowhound but have only been to LOS. I like LOS and think it's marginally better than the Thailand Restaurant in lower Manhattan (corner of Baxter and Bayard St).
It's hard for me to say because I don't agree with your first assessment. IMO, the order is easily LOS, Sripraphai, Thailand in that order, but I haven't eaten at Thailand this year. I can't think of any Thai restaurants in NYC nearly as good as the best five in L.A. or Chicago (and I've barely scratched the surface in these two cities).
I haven't been to Sripraphai in years, but I recall it being less user-friendly (for non-Thais) than LOS. Maybe that makes LOS less authentic, but I enjoyed actually knowing what I was ordering.
It's Palm Thai (singing Thai Elvis while you're chowing down on some excellent crispy Fish with Mango Chutney) and straight forward tasting Saladang, both in L.A. As for Vegas, we've still yet to discover something comparable. I can't stop thinking about what a place like Chan Dara would be like if we had one here in Vegas...... I guess I'll go and consult with them to see if they'll branch out with me........
