Berkeley - Digging Digs Bistro
Two great things ...
Duck confit scallion crepe with julienned fuyu persimmons and pears, dressed with pomegranite molasses and garnished with fresh pomegranite seeds.
Warm persimmon bread pudding with allspice ice cream and cranberry relish
Went with a friend this week and am going to single out these two dishes since I'd never order them on my own because usually I despise duck and bread pudding is something I rarely like.
The first bite of that duck crepe was an "oh wow' moment. That pairing of pomegranite with the rich confit was just ducky. It was also a very pretty dish with the green scallions incorporated into the crepe and the juiliane on top.
That persimmon bread pudding was all the flavors of fall in one dish. The pudding as rich as a good pumpkin bread with the complementary spicing from the ice cream and the tart cranberries bringing the dish together.
It was a very enjoyable dinner in the cozy restaurant. The staff is really nice. The owner had an underground restaurant a few years ago in his home. It still feels like being invited to someone's home for dinner. Very comfortable. This seems like it would be a great date restaurant.
