Murray Hill-ish Chowish Rec. for Sat. Night

JGS Nov 8, 2007 06:17 PM

In search of a chowish spot for three girlfriends for this Sat. night. Want Resto, but they don't take reservations, so we need a back up. Great food, atmosphere, not crazy pricey, preferably not too loud either.

Thank you!

Ali Baba, Ethos. I like Artisanal too, but it can be loud.

Pamplona is a good option for you...though the atmosphere isn't necessarily what I'd call great. It's got very good food, isn't crazy pricey, and certainly is not loud.

Cafe at Country would be another option (Country is very expensive). Artisanal is good, but loud. Penelope is one of my favorite "comfy" places but isn't exactly creative or exceptional food. Regardless...its a great place for a bunch of girls (more/less the key demographic).

The only thing I had from Café at country is the Ceasar salad (I had it through the room service while staying at the Carlton) and it was incredible! It was one of the best ceasar salads I ate in my life and I am very picky about salads. The Café is also a nice place to hang out.

We had an excellent first dinner experience at Cafe at Country; however, our second time, not so much. There were temperature and timing problems with our food; service left a lot to be desired; and the noise level was so insanely high, normal conversation was difficult. (Note: There was no problem with noise the first time because it was a not very busy Saturday evening during the summer.)

If you want Belgian maybe Petite Abeille. If you don't need Belgian then how about Les Halles

What kind of food or atmosphere do you want? Do you have a budget? Here some options in the murray hill-gramercy area. Ethos is a good greek spot. Banc Cafe, Artisanal, Asia de Cuba (little north), Penelope, Wild Salmon, Trio, Blue Smoke, BLT Prime, Country, Dos Caminos, i trulli, Novita, ThaiNY.
