Store bought/boxed cherry cake mix [Moved from Home Cooking board]

I hate to admit it, but I am looking for boxed cake (like in the cake aisle of the grocery store) and am looking specifically for cherry flavor.

I live in the Los Angeles area and need to get a hold of this. I have not seen it since I was a kid. Maybe they determined that whatever fd&c color (whatever) was in it caused bad things, in which case a. I wont find it, and b. I really shouldnt be looking.

In any event, I NEED IT!!!

Anyone know where I can find it?

M

I dunno, would getting vanilla cake mix and adding in marascino (SP) cherries work?

Just joined Chowhound. I know exactly what you are talking about! I've been looking for the same thing. Came across the recipe I had in a paperback recipe book that you find at the checkout stands. The recipe was a bundt cake and was absolutely delicious!! Let me know if you ever found it or find it, and I will keep you in mind in my searches.

I have been looking for CherryChip too but I can't bring myself to buy a case on Amazon. Maybe we can split it?

Forgot about Hometown Favorites! Just checked and you can buy individual boxes. I have had success ordering from this company, very efficient. $3.29 a box.

Huh? I see these Cherry cake mixes all the time at Vons and Ralphs and Albertsons. Maybe they're just in certain neighborhoods?

Just to clarify, I am not looking for cherry chip. It was cherry flavor cake and it produced a red-ish cake.

I remember this cake from childhood (70's) my stepmother used to make the recipe from the side of the box and it had canned cherries on the top. I have been looking for this recipe for years as she never kept it thinking it was always on the side of the box. Then they quit making the cherry cake mix and the recipe was gone. I just found this recipe online and without the whipcream it may be close to the same thing. I will keep my search going and one day I may get lucky and find it. http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs...

Duncan Hines makes a CherryVanilla one, Sometimes the more unusual flavors end up at the 99cent stores. Or maybe Albertson's can order it for you.

Good call on the 99. I will try that.

                Thanks
