One night is reserved for Legal Seafoods. Any other suggestions? We'll be staying at Long Wharf, so we're thinking the North End for dinner. Been to Antico Forno quite a bit, as well as Artu. Any suggestions? Nothing fancy, good old fashioned Italian like gramma used to make (not high prices either).
It's wonderful to eat in the North End and then walk to Mike's for dessert, and walk back to our hotel, all well fed and cozy!
Any suggestions for tried and true? Thanks CHs!

Thanks! Hopefully not as expensive as Sel de la Terre. At least we found it to be. I'll check to see if Il Panino has a website.

Il Panino is not really that great there are much better choices in the North End..Mama Maria, Prezza, Mare, Marco, even old school places like L'Osteria....try the Modern instead of Mike's less choices but better quality :)

I would strongly advise against Trattoria Il Panino, as they refuse to serve tap water and aggressively upsell customers to buy bottled water or some other drink at cost. Life is too short for shenanigans of this type, and unfortunately there are places in this part of town that do things like this.

There are no shortage of excellent spots in the North End that fit your description, including Maurizio's, Marco, Antico Forno, Pagliuca's, and Giacomo's. Prezza and Mamma Maria are great but more expensive.

Mike's is of course excellent for pastries, but don't discount Modern Pastries or Maria's, also first-rate. Or if you want a sit-down cappucino/espresso and cannoli spot, Caffe Vittoria is most worthwhile.

Check out the research I did on an earlier thread on this area:

Thanks everyone! So funny that so many said "Modern." I almost typed Modern and Mikes, but in an effort to keep it short, just typed Mikes! I do love Modern, as well! I will have to check out Caffe Vittoria. As I mentioned been to Antico Forno and Artu quite a bit and wanted to try another place, but not as expensive as Mamma Maria.
 How about Galleria? Any comments?

If you mean Galleria Umberto, they're only open at lunch time, though they are excellent and amazingly inexpensive. Best to get there by 11 AM or so.

If you mean La Galleria 33, they're open for dinner and certainly good, but might be a little more upscale and expensive that you're looking for.

We went to Galleria 33 when they first opened. Food was good and well-prepared, service was friendly, but no garlic in the red sauce, just onion. We were both disappointed.
